Medicaid Pathways
Overview
If you have a child who requires long-term care services due to intellectual or developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or mental health disabilities your child will likely qualify for Medicaid.
Medicaid’s benefit package for children, Early and Periodic Screening Diagnostic and Treatment, covers physical and behavioral health services as well as long-term services and supports that enable children with chronic needs to live at home with their families. Medicaid supplements special education services, and can also fill in the gaps to make coverage affordable for privately insured children with special healthcare needs.
Virginia currently has four Medicaid waivers that can serve children. All of them are home and community based waivers, and are based only on child income without regard to parent income.
